525 Janitors Prepared to Anticipate Flooding in Jakarta

To anticipate flooding during rainy season in upcoming November, Jakarta Cleanliness Department has prepared 525 janitors to be deployed at some points. Additionally, various facilities are also prepared, namely 54 dump trucks, 34 mobile toilets, 13 dirty water tanks, 4 clean water tanks, 6 heavy equipments, 1,000 plastic bags, 250 dustpans, 250 rakes, 250 baskets, dan 250 shovels.

“We prepare 525 janitors in 56 flood-prone areas in the capital city,” stated Head of Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Saptastri Ediningtyas Kusumadewi, Monday (10/27).

At this time, Jakarta Cleanliness Department is also concentrating on cleaning up the trashes on 13 rivers in the city.

Locals Around Rawa Lindung Reservoir Worry About Flooding

“Of the 13 rivers, the worst polluted river is Ciliwung River with 132.75 tons of trash, followed by Krukut River with 44.36 tons of trash and Angke River with 28.80 tons of trash. The lowest trash potential is the Mookevart River with 5.39 tons of trash,” she disclosed.

Meanwhile, the 56 flood-prone areas spread in five municipalities are:

1. Central Jakarta: Kemayoran, Kwitang, Senen, Manggarai, Jati Petamburan, Sumur Batu, and Tanah Abang;

2. East Jakarta: Klender, Otista, Makasar, Duren Sawit, Cakung, Kampung Melayu, Halim Perdanakusuma, Cipinang Besar, Jatinegara Barat, Perintis Kemerdekaan, Pulo Gadung, and Condet;

3. North Jakarta: Kelapa Gading, Cilincing, Penjaringan, Tanjung Priok, Pademangan, Koja, Sunter, and Plumpang;

4. South Jakarta: Pesanggrahan, Kebayoran Baru, Kebayoran Lama, Tebet, Pancoran, Cilandak, Setiabudi, Kalibata, Pasar Minggu, Rawajati, and Mampang;

5. West Jakarta: Latumenten, Green Garden, Kebon Jeruk, Kembangan, Kali Sekretaris, Palmerah Utara, S Parman, Kyai Tapa, Petamburan, Duri Kepa, Pasar Patra, Tomang Barat, Daan Mogot, Green Ville, Grogol Petamburan, and Tubagus Angke;

“We urge Jakartans not to throw trash into the river because it would trigger puddles and flood during rainy season,” said Kusumadewi.
